I placed a hold on a Greenburgh book. Why is it coming from another library?

Answer

The holds system works in mysterious ways. Patrons are given priority for the materials owned by their home library. The system may also try to target the copy that is at the library where you're picking up the item. If the hold is not filled within 24 hours, the system will target a different copy.

The system generates a hold list (in real time) and we pull books from that list once or twice a day. Depending on when you place your hold, it may or may not be on our list.

The best and fastest way to get an item that shows as available at Greenburgh Library is to call and ask a librarian to place the hold for you. For adult materials, call (914) 721-8225 and for children's and young adult materials, call (914) 721-8227.
